Seeing is believing! VELUX Design Studio is a playfully intuitive tool, allowing customers to experience their homes with roof windows, using advanced 3D-technology known from film production.

Challenge

A roof window has the potential to completely transform a home. From a dark, enclosed attic room to the cosiest space in the house, with the best view, the best natural light, and the best indoor climate.

However, VELUX’s customers are having difficulty imagining what they cannot see – and VELUX’s Design advisors have lacked a tool to demonstrate the transformation before customers embark on the project and make their purchase.

At the same time, VELUX misses out on an upselling opportunity. VELUX’s experience has shown, that many customers’ biggest regret is not choosing more roof windows, when the craftsmen were already at work.

By introducing Design Studio in VELUX’s Homeowner Journey, we help customers envision the impact of daylight and the transformation of their space by adding VELUX windows. Design Studio creates a “wow” experience with powerful 3D-visualisation of their own attic space with roof windows, made possible by Unreal Engine 5 software, which is also used in game development and film production.

The design tool helps VELUX Design advisors to provide expert guidance on optimal placement, airflow, lighting, and noise reduction.

Additionally, it offers valuable information such as estimates on how the installation of roof windows will increase property value, along with a complete cost overview and the ability to initiate a real project with a single click.

The VELUX Design advisors can easily construct a virtual replica of the customer’s home, add interior elements and details that create a realistic environment. In this setting, various proposals for roof window solutions can be inserted and rendered within seconds. The entire drag-drop-move-expand makes the tool exploratory and playfully intuitive.

Results

Design Studio equips VELUX’s Design advisors around the world with a tool that streamlines, professionalises, and enhances their sales work. Being able to sit with customers and showcase, customize, explain, document, and upsell based on their own home will be a game-changer for both customers and VELUX.

Being able to simulate this experience so convincingly before customers make their final decision is a direct path to increased sales, better solutions, and enhanced customer satisfaction.

The development of the next generation of Design Studio, assisted by AI, is already being explored, supporting VELUX’s Design advisors even better in guiding customers to the perfect solution.
